Not All Body Contouring Treatments Do the Same Thing

Emsculpt (E-Sculpt at Mirror Mirror), CoolSculpting, and Kybella are all non-surgical body treatments — but they address fundamentally different problems through completely different mechanisms. Choosing the wrong one for your goal wastes money and time. Choosing the right one produces results that last.

Mirror Mirror Med Spa in Los Angeles offers E-Sculpt (muscle building and fat reduction) and Kybella (permanent chin fat elimination). CoolSculpting is included here as comparison context — Mirror Mirror does not offer CoolSculpting, but understanding all three helps patients make the right decision for their specific body concern.

E-Sculpt, CoolSculpting & Kybella — The Real Difference

Mechanism determines outcome. Here is exactly what each treatment does — and who it is right for.

CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting uses controlled cooling (cryolipolysis) to freeze and kill fat cells in targeted areas. The frozen cells die and are gradually eliminated by the body over 2 to 4 months. No needles, no muscle involvement — purely a fat reduction device. Best for larger, generalized fat bulges on the flanks, abdomen, or inner thighs.

Frequently Asked Questions

The most common questions about E-Sculpt, CoolSculpting, and Kybella for body contouring in Los Angeles.

The fundamental difference is what each treatment targets. Emsculpt (E-Sculpt at Mirror Mirror) builds muscle while simultaneously reducing fat — it works through electromagnetic stimulation that forces supramaximal muscle contractions. CoolSculpting only reduces fat — it has no muscle-building effect. If your goal is a tighter, more toned appearance with visible muscle definition, E-Sculpt is the appropriate choice. If your goal is purely reducing a fat bulge without muscle concern, CoolSculpting may be more suitable. Mirror Mirror offers E-Sculpt — not CoolSculpting.

They target completely different areas and goals. E-Sculpt is for body areas — abdomen, buttocks, arms, thighs — and is the right choice for clients who want muscle toning and definition combined with fat reduction. Kybella is exclusively for the submental region (double chin) and is the right choice for clients with stubborn chin fat that does not respond to diet and exercise. Many Mirror Mirror clients use both — Kybella to eliminate their double chin and E-Sculpt to tone their abdomen simultaneously.

E-Sculpt at Mirror Mirror Med Spa is $275 per single session. The 6-session package is $1,100 and the 10-session package is $1,400 — both represent meaningful per-session savings versus individual sessions. Most clients achieve their best results with 4 to 6 sessions per treatment area. See our E-Sculpt service page for full detail on treatment areas and protocol recommendations.

Yes — this is what distinguishes it from every other body contouring device. High-intensity focused electromagnetic energy forces the targeted muscle to contract at an intensity beyond what voluntary exercise can produce. These supramaximal contractions cause muscle fiber hypertrophy (growth) and hyperplasia (new fiber development). Clinical studies have demonstrated average muscle mass increases of approximately 16 percent and fat reduction of approximately 19 percent after a standard 4-session E-Sculpt protocol on the abdomen.

E-Sculpt results typically last 6 to 12 months at stable weight with regular exercise. The fat reduction component is permanent for cells eliminated during treatment — but remaining fat cells can expand with weight gain. The muscle-building effect requires maintenance, as built muscle will gradually atrophy without continued physical activity, just like gym-built muscle. Most clients do a maintenance series once or twice per year to sustain results.

Yes — they target completely different areas so there is no conflict. A patient could be in a Kybella series for their double chin while simultaneously completing an E-Sculpt series for their abdomen. They are booked and billed separately and do not interact. Kybella sessions require 4 to 6 weeks between treatments; E-Sculpt sessions are done 2 to 3 times per week. Your provider at Mirror Mirror will help you schedule both protocols efficiently at your consultation.
